The Karakoram "Black Mountains" stretches about 400 Kilometers/250 miles.
Four out of 15 above 8000 m recognized peaks, are located in the Karakoram Range.

THE SECOND HIGHEST PEAK IN THE WORLD (8611 m)
The K-2 is the proud asset of Pakistan. Rising to the frightening height of 28,250 feet (8,611 meters) like a pyramid, K-2 is located near the Baltoro Glacier in the extreme north of Baltistan (The little Tibet) just on Sino-Pakistan border. In fact theboundary between the twocountries passes the K2.
The peak achieved great prominence not only because of the fact that its is the world's second highest peak but also because of the record of many successive attempts made by the mountaineers from various part of the world, for its conquest.
To reach its base camp one has to cross the thrilling and adventurer's hazards of Baltoro performable only in stages and of course needing determination.
GASHERBRUM I
THE HIDDEN PEAK (8068 m)
Gasharbrum I, is popularly known as Hidden Peak. The clusters of peaks in the South East of the mighty K2 are named as Gasharbrum peaks. Swiss Skier "Sylvan Saudan" set world Record by skiing down from the summit. In local language Gasharbrum means "Shining Wall". The approach route to Base camp starts from Skardu through Shigar Valley and approach trek starts from Thongal or Askole through Baltoro glacier, southern Abruzzi glaciers.
BROAD PEAK
(8047 m)
The Broad peak is the 3rd highest peak in the Karakoram Range and the 4th highest in Pakistan. It is also called "FALCHAN KANGRI" in Balti. This giant mountain was first scaled in June 1957.
The peak is located on the west end of the Baltoro glacier. Despite of its massive height of 8,047 meters (26, 400 feet ) the peak remained escaped from the serious attention of the mountaineers for long period.
GASHERBRUM II
(8035 m) 
This shining mountain in the Karakoram Range is the second highest of the Gasharbrum Peaks with an altitude of 8,035 meters. To conquer this peak one has to climb on totally rock and ice.. A high level of technical skill, physical fitness and acclimatization is required. The approach to base camp is via Skardu and about a week trek on Baltoro glacier.
Apart from these mighty peaks some 29 peaks (7500 - 7900m), 102 peaks (7000 -7500 m), 143 peaks (6501 - 7000 m) peaks, 220 peaks (6001 - 6500 m) and numerous peaks below 6000 m are located in the Karakoram.
The area is heavily glaciated and contains the world's greatest and longest glaciers.
