Gondogoro Peak & Hushe Valley
(A moderate trek and climb in the heart of Karakoram)
The Gondogoro Valley, that the peak known " Gondogoro Peak " is situated. This 5650 meter peak presents the perfect challenge for the accomplished trekkers or hill walkers seeking a first Himalayan Summit, as it is located in the heart of Karakoram and offers an ascent with little in the way of technical difficulty for objective danger.
The first part of the trek involves walking up the Masharbrum valley to Masharbrum base camp at 4400 meters.
Back to Hushe and then the second part of the trip ascending the Gondogoro Valley. Saitcho, a beautiful spot at the junction of the Gondogoro and Charakusa Valleys and Dalsing Pa, by a beautiful lake, in the valley of Gondogoro directly opposite the vast and chaotic ice fall which tumbles down from the Masharbrum La. Walking the upper ridges of the Gondogoro glacier to the base camp, there are close -ups of many incredibly beautiful 6000 meter - plus peaks, with perhaps the most striking being " Laila Peak ". No previous mountaineering experience is required to climb, but the ascent is quite strenuous due to the altitude. Setting off at 1 am would be reasonable to expect to be on the summit at 7 or 8 am and to be back in camp by lunchtime. Ropes are used for only the last 100 Meter of the climb in a couple of places. The group will normally be well on its way to the top of Gondogoro by the time the sun catches the summit of Masharbrum and paints it a surreal pink.
The panorama from Gondogoro of Masharbrum Chogolisa, Hidden peak, Trinity peak, Laila Peak and the Gondogoro glacier stretching down the valley as yet still in the early morning shadow is worthy of any superlative
