Shimshal Minglek Sar
21 days - A superb trek and 6000 meter climb in the northern Karakoram - Views of K2 and the Concordia peaks - Unique Shimshali culture - Contribute to the good work of the SNT
East of Pasu on the Karakoram Highway, the dramatically beautiful territory of Shimshal is home to some of the finest trekking in the Karakoram. Accessed by way of the charming Shimshal Village, which is itself 2 days' walk from the road head, this is a rugged and remote area including several interconnecting valleys and 9 peaks above 7000 meters. Working alongside the Shimshal Nature Trust (SNT) (an organization set up by the Shimshalis to manage and protect their precious environment), and following our most recent visit to this area in summer 2000, we have produced a brilliant new itinerary, to include an ascent (optional) of the non-technical "trekking peak," Minglek Sar (6050m.). Climbed from the fascinating shepherds encampment of Shuwert, on the high alpine pasture of the Shimshal Pass, this peak provides a safe and rewarding climb and offers stunning views of the major Karakoram summits. An outstanding trek and climb in a rarely visited wilderness area.
